About the Conference
The International Conference Development and Democracy is a leading event in the region and creates space for innovative ideas and networking. It brings together the international community of NGOs, decision makers, academics and individuals who are ready to invest in the future we want.
This years´ conference DEVELOPMENT AND DEMOCRACY: Sustainable World with Noone Left Behind is in line with the priorities in the field of foreign affairs, international development and cooperation of Slovakia´s Presidency of the Council of the EU. It opens opportunities to stir the wider professional and academic debate on the importance of tackling democracy, migration and global development. Sharing and dissemination of innovative ideas on global responsibility is a key for our common future.
The conference provides a unique opportunity for you to share knowledge, creative ideas, experience, successes and failures in development and innovation. Topics covered will move around themes of SDGs, migration and housing, innovations in development and Linking Relief Rehabilitation and Development (LRRD).
We invite academic and non-academic contributions in wide range of topics underlying issues associated with development cooperation. We encourage all academics, professionals and practitioners to participate and give their contributions.
- Effective coordination for sustainable development – how to attain long-term sustainability through coordinated policies?
- Implementation of Sustainable Development Goals- role of the actors and means of implementation
- Migration as a driver for development
- Innovations for positive social and environmental change in the developing world
- Global Citizenship Education as a tool to improve learning environment in traditional education systems
- Western Balkan CSOs for development- role of the NGOs in developing mechanisms and defining policies for development cooperation and humanitarian aid
- How to make cities inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable?
All contributions, followed by positive reviewing process, will be published by Pontis Foundation in the conference booklet with ISBN number. Participants interested in publishing a paper, should indicate this in the registration form.
For the conference, one may submit:
LOT A: Academic Contributions
- e.g. research papers
LOT B: Other types of submissions
- e.g. non-academic contributions, case studies, products/ projects demonstration, short memos
All registered academic contributions will be evaluated by academic committee composed of academic staff of the Faculty of Social and Economic Sciences at Comenius University in Bratislava, Faculty of International Relations of the University of Economics in Bratislava and the Pontis Foundation. The Pontis Foundation will send the evaluation of the paper to the author who will be able to adjust their contribution within 14 days of receipt of the assessment. Contributions approved by the evaluation committee will be published in the peerreviewed part of conference proceeding.
Those wishing to publish academic contribution are obliged to send an abstract, keywords and the paper in English language. The required extent of the paper is 8 – 14 standardized pages (14,000 to 25,200 characters including spaces).
The paper should include the following parts:
- Abstract: 100 – 150 words
- Key words: 3 – 5 words
- Conclusion/ Recommendations
Authors are invited to submit the full version of their paper to firstname.lastname@example.org in electronic form (only .DOC files are acceptable). The deadline for paper submission is 8. 9. 2016.
All registered non-academic contributions will be evaluated by preparatory committee of the conference and our partner organizations staff. Contributions approved by the preparatory committee will be published in a not peer-reviewed part of conference proceeding. Case studies, non-academic contributions, products/projects, short memos shall be submitted to email@example.com in electronic form (only .DOC files are acceptable). The deadline for paper submission is 8.9.2016. There are no special requirements for these types of submissions.

The International Conference Development and Democracy is free of charge as it is co-financed with support of SlovakAid and International Visegrad Found.
The Pontis Foundation is partially co-financing the travel and accommodation costs for those participants, who will submit a paper.
